We're Recruiting - Audio Post Sound Engineer

SNK Studios is one of London’s leading audio post production companies. We occupy 6 floors on Tottenham Court Road – a lovely building stuffed full of audio studios, tracklay suites and production offices. As part of SNK Publishing LTD, we share a home with Red Apple Creative - a specialist audio creative agency - effectively an in-house client, producing radio and Spotify creative content.

Clients include major brands like Aston Martin, Hasbro, Paddy Power, Disney and Amblin. We produce audio in all formats for commercials, TV and feature films. The building houses stereo, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos suites with two ADR spaces.

We are looking for an experienced Audio Post Sound Engineer to join our wonderful team.

You will be responsible for engineering Audio Post sessions in one of our 4 main client suites and depending on capacity / lockdown restrictions, you might sometimes need to work from home too. You will help support the other Engineers and be willing to learn and develop your own skills constantly. You will work closely with the bookings team, the runners and the producers, whilst supporting the day to day running of the facility.

We have long lasting relationships with our clients because they trust us and we always deliver. We’ve seen significant growth as a company in the last few years so it’s an exciting time to join us. We firmly believe that the people in our company are our strongest asset and we’re proud to have a brilliant team who amaze us every day. We boast a high staff retention rate and have more than doubled in size in the last few years.

If you’ve got passion, drive and an ambition to grow with a business, and you work well as part of a team, you’ll love it here and you will become an integral part of the SNK Studios family.

Day to day you will work closely with bookings and production staff to:

-Run ProTools sessions - Recording voiceovers, sound design, edit and mix - mostly sound to picture but often radio, spotify / online content too. Largely short form commercial mixing, but some longform voice work too.

-Help with the technical maintenance of the facility.

-Interact with clients and host client attended recording sessions.

-Use the Source Connect and Cleanfeed systems to record voice overs and monitor remotely.

-Deliver files to the team and to clients.

-Create sound design

-Operate ADR sessions - or a grounding with a willingness to learn ADR techniques.

-Contribute to the wider day-to- day running of the facilities – technical improvements, helping runners, Transfer etc.

-Share tips and tricks with other engineers - no matter how long we’ve been doing this, we’re always learning!

-Set up and sometimes tidy down studios

-Diligently record session details in our session logging system.

-Attend occasional out of hours meetings, including the monthly engineers meeting.

This is not an exhaustive list, related tasks will be expected of you, and of course as the role and the company develops, day to day tasks will develop too.

-At least 3 years experience of client-attended Audio Post sessions.

-An extensive, confident knowledge of the ProTools software platform.

-Good working knowledge of RX Izotope, Source Connect, Skype, EdiPrompt and other related audio software.

-A good understanding of video in ProTools and Quicktime, including video formats and creating basic WIP files for clients.

-Full confidence with voice over recording, including with multiple voices and ‘down the line’ recording, plus tracklaying, sound design, editing audio, internal bouncing and creating stem files (M&Es etc) as requested.

-Confident in video frame rates, R128, LUFS and other tech specs and deliverables.

-A good knowledge of 5.1 mixing within ProTools, ideally an understanding of cinema / DOlby deliverables.

-Enthusiasm and constant willingness to learn from all other staff members

-Adapt to any standard practices the company requires like ProTools session templates

-At all times be polite, helpful and proactive.

-Not be afraid to roll your sleeves up and help out with anything required of you.

-Have a positive, can-do attitude.

-Good organization and time management.
-Due to ever-changing Covid-19 restrictions, you must be flexible to work from both the studio facility or a home setup with short notice. (We can aid with the setup of a remote system where needed).

-A thorough knowledge of ProTools is a must – you will be tested on this as part of the interview process – including knowledge of EQ, Compression, searching for sounds, and how to treat voice files. You will also recognise when something sounds good and when it doesn't.

-Other software has been mentioned throughout this doc - the list is not exhaustive.

-You could be someone who's worked as a freelancer for a while, or in house at another Post House. A degree is not a prerequisite, but the industry experience and running client attended sessions is a must
-Attention to detail is key, being organised is paramount.

-Great communication skills, with good email and phone-manner are important.

9am – 6pm Monday to Friday. However you will often be required to be flexible time wise (detailed in T&Cs prior to contract). The bookings team always try to make up time and there are systems and provisions in place for significant out of hours work we mutually agree to do.
