Junior Dubbing Engineer & Studios Support

Job Description - June 2022

Established in 2005, SNK Studios is one of London’s leading Audio Post Production houses. We occupy 6 floors on Tottenham Court Road. We create audio for commercials, TV shows and feature films. The building houses stereo, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos suites with three ADR spaces. We also have a separate foreign language Dubbing & ADR team and a dedicated Audiobooks team. Everyone works (and celebrates!) together in a spirit of collaboration and support, which we love. We believe that the people in our company are our strongest asset and we’re proud to have a brilliant team who amaze us every day.

We’re part of the SNK Publishing Group, based in London and New York, which includes Red Apple Creative - a specialist audio creative agency. Clients include major brands like Aston Martin, Hasbro, Paddy Power, Spotify, Disney and Amblin.

Diversity and inclusion matter to us. They’re not just words. We are committed to inclusion across race, gender, age, religion, identity, physical ability, neurodiversity and experience. We welcome your uniqueness.

We’re continually pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and we always celebrate our success along the way.

We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved so far but we’re not stopping there, as we’re now looking for a new Junior Dubbing Engineer to join the Dubbing & ADR team who can also provide additional support for our other teams.

We're honest and open. A swear jar would bankrupt us all. We're all equal and we laugh at ourselves...and each other.

We're unconventional, productive and we do whatever it takes to get the job done. We like burgers (meat, veggie and vegan).

We always make time for each other and our clients. We live and breathe audio. We're people pleasers. We're all very different and we love that about our team.

We praise each other and recognise achievements. We like going to the pub. We don't quit, we fix. We're kind and caring. We make a difference. We stick together and pick each other up when it's needed.

Some of us like to dance! We say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. We're passionate and motivated. We always leave our clients feeling good.

We have fantastic relationships with several major international TV and film production companies and streaming platforms. We handle the mixing of a lot of their foreign re-versioning work; dubbing UK & US programming into other languages whilst also assisting with the recording of original dialogue too. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience working on internationally acclaimed shows, feature films and documentaries, whilst coming into contact with the exciting audio work the other teams do too.

As a ‘Junior Dubbing Engineer & Studios Assistant’ you will receive lots of valuable training and help support the day-to-day running of these projects whilst also helping the wider studios teams setup sessions and other general ‘runner’ support duties around the facility.

There are huge opportunities to learn technical skills, work closely as part of a team and begin to understand our client relationships.

You will become an integral part of the company. You may well find yourself moving up the ladder as time passes as have many of our team members.

You’ll need to have a certain confidence, and not get flustered when it’s busy . You’re not a passenger, you’re proactive and you enjoy making things happen.

You don’t miss deadlines and you are willing to go that extra mile to make sure of it. You’ll be really proud of the work we produce.

Day to day you will:

  • Train on the foreign versioning work, grow within the Dubbing & ADR department and contribute to offering an outstanding service to our clients

  • Help setup and prep for ADR and other day to day studio sessions.

  • Help with technical maintenance and processing of files.

  • Process and edit audio for TV, radio, audiobooks and more.

  • Share tips and tricks with other engineers - no matter how long we’ve been doing this, we’re always learning!

  • We run an engineer mentorship programme in the business, so you will be keen to take part in this to ensure you’re always learning.

  • Attend occasional out of hours meetings and events, including the monthly engineers and company wide team meetings.

  • A thorough knowledge of ProTools is a must – you will be tested on this during the interview process – including knowledge of EQ, Compression, and how to treat voice files. You recognise when something sounds good and when it doesn't.

  • Familiar with TV / Online specs including loudness / R128.

  • You will have a good knowledge of video file formats and frame-rates

  • Attention to detail is key, being organised is paramount.

  • You're presentable with great communication skills - good email and phone manners are crucial.

  • You need to be polite, calm and open to learning new things.

  • A positive, can-do attitude!

  • Good organisation and time management skills.

  • This job is ideal for a university graduate with some industry experience - although no degree is necessary – you could be someone who's worked as a freelancer for a while and now wants to be part of a bigger, more established team.

  • You might have worked in ‘Transfer’ or as a ‘Runner’ at another post facility and be longing for some career progression.

  • Good work experience and runner duties on your CV will be an advantage

  • Good working knowledge of Izotope RX, Source Connect, Zoom and other related audio software.

  • Familiarity with other software including Google GSuite

  • Fluency in other languages

  • Ability to play a musical instrument

It’s really important that we are a right fit for each other. Therefore we usually have three chats; online, on the phone or in person. This is so we can get to know each other properly which is really important for you and us, as we want you to be with us for a long time so you need to know it’s right for you.

If there is another way you’d like to do this that will really give you the chance to shine, please tell us if we get in touch to chat.

To start with, 9am – 6pm Monday to Friday with an hour unpaid lunch, plus occasional out of hours work required. We always make this up to you either via time in lieu or overtime pay.

We may also look to change your hours at some point implementing a rota to accommodate late opening hours of the facility. All candidates must be open to potentially working a couple of later shifts each week c. 1pm-10pm with a break 5-6pm.

Monthly team and company wide get-togethers will be required out of hours. Christmas parties, summer parties, team outings and general socialising are an important part of what we do.

The equivalent of a London Living Wage up to £25,000 depending on experience

Probation period: 6 months with benefits starting after probation

Benefits include:

  • Subsidised Bupa medical care

  • Cycle to work scheme

  • Various training schemes to help us all be better

  • 28 days holiday plus bank holidays (3 of the 28 days will be between Christmas and New Year)

You will primarily be required to work from the main facility on Tottenham Court Road, W1.
