SNK Studios and Red Apple Creative Host First Camden STEAM Workplace Visit

SNK Studios and Red Apple Creative have hosted their first successful STEAM Workplace visit, giving young people the opportunity to come into their studios to take part in a workshop and learn more about working in the creative industries.

London based studio SNK Studios and the audio agency, Red Apple Creative, opened their doors to students aged 16 to 18 to help them gain valuable industry experience as part of the Camden STEAM initiative.

The Camden STEAM Commission was established to give local young people the best skills and opportunities in order to gain valuable experience in the borough's thriving creative, digital and scientific economy. STEAM encourages a greater fusion in creative, digital and scientific education and aims to tackle underrepresentation, providing all Camden young people with access to the opportunities available locally.

Director and co-founder of SNK studios, Seb Juviler, was delighted at seeing months of planning turn into a successful event for local students: “We started this journey 10 months ago. For me, a real focus this year has been for our business to give back to the local community, helping to shape the futures of young people. To see it grow from an idea to helping real people get real industry experience has been an absolute joy for our company.”

Director and founder of Red Apple Creative, Paul Golliker, explained why the business felt it was so important to be a part of STEAM: “With everything that has happened in the world since 2020, young people are facing challenging times when it comes to getting into work. We wanted to give back and hopefully inspire people about a career working in audio and the creative industries.”

The company's involvement with STEAM goes alongside their other initiatives, such as The Academy Team. Seb explained: “We established the Academy Team to recruit, train and reach out to young people who historically may have not made their way in the audio production, creative and digital industries. It’s an opportunity for underrepresented young people to get a foot in the door with a real job, offering workplace training and mentorship from our staff.”

Paul expanded on the reasons their company felt this was a priority: “It’s really important to everyone in our business to have the chance to make a positive impact, as they care about nurturing diverse talent from all backgrounds.”

SNK and Red Apple will be running STEAM workshops throughout the year as well as visiting local schools as STEAM Ambassadors, where they will talk to students about their future options and how to break into the audio and creative industries.

OUR CULTURE (DEFINED BY OUR TEAM)

We're honest and open. A swear jar would bankrupt us all. We're all equal and we laugh at ourselves...and each other.

We're unconventional, productive and we do whatever it takes to get the job done. We like burgers (meat, veggie and vegan).

We always make time for each other and our clients. We live and breathe audio. We're people pleasers. We're all very different and we love that about our team.

We praise each other and recognise achievements. We like going to the pub. We don't quit, we fix. We're kind and caring. We make a difference. We stick together and pick each other up when it's needed.

Some of us like to dance! We say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. We're passionate and motivated. We always leave our clients feeling good.

JOB OVERVIEW

We have fantastic relationships with several major international TV and film production companies and streaming platforms. We handle the mixing of a lot of their foreign re-versioning work; dubbing UK & US programming into other languages. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience working on the adaptation and re-versioning of internationally acclaimed shows, feature films and documentaries.

There are huge opportunities to learn technical skills, work closely as part of a team, understand client relationships and get ‘hands-on’ experience.

You will become an integral part of the company servicing some of its most important accounts. You may well find yourself moving up the ladder as time passes as have many of our team members.

As a ‘Junior Dubbing Engineer & Studios Assistant’ you will help support the day-to-day running of these projects whilst also helping the wider studios teams setup sessions and with other general ‘runner’ support duties around the facility.

You’ll need to have a certain confidence, and not get flustered when it’s busy . You’re not a passenger, you’re proactive and you enjoy making things happen.

You don’t miss deadlines and you are willing to go that extra mile to make sure of it. You’ll be really proud of the work we produce.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Day to day you will:

  • Train on the foreign versioning work, grow within the Dubbing & ADR department and contribute to offering an outstanding service to our clients

  • Help setup and prep for ADR and other day to day studio sessions.

  • Perform general ‘runner’ duties.

  • Help with technical maintenance from time to time.

  • Share tips and tricks with other engineers - no matter how long we’ve been doing this, we’re always learning!

  • We run an engineer mentorship programme in the business, so you will be keen to take part in this to ensure you’re always learning.

  • Attend occasional out of hours meetings and events, including the monthly engineers meeting.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A thorough knowledge of ProTools is a must – you will be tested on this during the interview process – including knowledge of EQ, Compression, and how to treat voice files. You recognise when something sounds good and when it doesn't.

  • Familiar with TV / Online specs including loudness / R128.

  • You will have a good knowledge of video file formats and frame-rates

  • Attention to detail is key, being organised is paramount.

  • You're presentable with great communication skills - good email and phone manners are crucial.

  • You need to be polite, calm and open to learning new things.

  • A positive, can-do attitude!

  • Good organization and time management skills.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • This job is ideal for a university graduate with some industry experience - although no degree is necessary – you could be someone who's worked as a freelancer for a while and now wants to be part of a bigger, more established team.

  • You might have worked in ‘Transfer’ at another audio post facility for a while and be longing for some career progression.

  • Good work experience and runner duties will be an advantage

BONUS POINTS

  • Good working knowledge of Izotope RX, Source Connect, Skype and other related audio software.

  • Familiarity with other software including Google GSuite

  • Fluency in other languages

  • Ability to play a musical instrument

THE HIRING PROCESS

It’s really important that we are a right fit for each other. Therefore we usually have three chats; online, on the phone or in person. If there is another way you’d like to do this that will really give you the chance to shine, please tell us if we get in touch to chat.

HOURS
