SNK Studios and Red Apple Creative Host First Camden STEAM Workplace Visit
SNK Studios and Red Apple Creative have hosted their first successful STEAM Workplace visit, giving young people the opportunity to come into their studios to take part in a workshop and learn more about working in the creative industries.
London based studio SNK Studios and the audio agency, Red Apple Creative, opened their doors to students aged 16 to 18 to help them gain valuable industry experience as part of the Camden STEAM initiative.
The Camden STEAM Commission was established to give local young people the best skills and opportunities in order to gain valuable experience in the borough's thriving creative, digital and scientific economy. STEAM encourages a greater fusion in creative, digital and scientific education and aims to tackle underrepresentation, providing all Camden young people with access to the opportunities available locally.
Director and co-founder of SNK studios, Seb Juviler, was delighted at seeing months of planning turn into a successful event for local students: “We started this journey 10 months ago. For me, a real focus this year has been for our business to give back to the local community, helping to shape the futures of young people. To see it grow from an idea to helping real people get real industry experience has been an absolute joy for our company.”
Director and founder of Red Apple Creative, Paul Golliker, explained why the business felt it was so important to be a part of STEAM: “With everything that has happened in the world since 2020, young people are facing challenging times when it comes to getting into work. We wanted to give back and hopefully inspire people about a career working in audio and the creative industries.”
The company's involvement with STEAM goes alongside their other initiatives, such as The Academy Team. Seb explained: “We established the Academy Team to recruit, train and reach out to young people who historically may have not made their way in the audio production, creative and digital industries. It’s an opportunity for underrepresented young people to get a foot in the door with a real job, offering workplace training and mentorship from our staff.”
Paul expanded on the reasons their company felt this was a priority: “It’s really important to everyone in our business to have the chance to make a positive impact, as they care about nurturing diverse talent from all backgrounds.”
SNK and Red Apple will be running STEAM workshops throughout the year as well as visiting local schools as STEAM Ambassadors, where they will talk to students about their future options and how to break into the audio and creative industries.
